MAORI WOMAN'S DEATH.

The funeral took place at Orakei native village on Monday afternoon of a much-respected resident of the pa, Mrs. Ilotana Taunga, the wife of Turu Taunga. The deceased who was only 47 years of age, had been unwell for some time, but her sudden death was nevertheless a shock to tlie whole community. She was a daughter of Reiliana, and cousin to the well known Reweti family of the Ngati-Whatua. She leaves a husband and a young adopted baby. The funeral service, which was largely attended, was conducted by the Rev. Pere Matia. The Orakei people have received messages and visits of condolence from many connected tribes, including Waikato, Hauraki, Kaipara, Ngapuhi, and the Far North, as well as from many Tainaki residents.
