A feature of the "VVcstfield fat stoc£ sales to-day was the sale of eight steers, sold on account of Mr. W. J. Ralph, Malmta, which, realised up to £10 2/G. This is the highest price received for bullocks for some weeks and beef quotations continue to remain on their recent high level. The quality generally was up* to its usual good standard and bidding was brisk throughout.
The cow section, included some exceptionally choice cattle and again tile better class sorts realised excellent prices. The calves, penned were not as well filled as in recent weeks, but the demand was • steady and late rates were fully maintained. INDIVIDUAL LOTS. Steers. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd. Beef—We penned fat cattle to the number of 285 head, as against 323 head last week, comprising 79 .steers and 200 cows and heifere. The quality of ox beef penned was 'first class. Bidding was spirited and late quotations were easily maintained. Good quality cows and heifers wore again in demand, while medium and inferior sorts were slightly easier. Extra choice ox sold to 36/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 32/ to 34/; secondary and plain, 29/ to 31/; prime young cow and • heifer beef, 32/ to 34/: secondary, 21/ to 2S/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged m price from £14 to £14 10/; heavy, £12 10/ to £13 10/: lighter, £11 10/ to £12: light, £10 10/ to £11; small and, unfinished, £9 to £9 5/. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £10 to £11 10/; heavy, £7 10/ to £9: lighter, £o 5/ to £6 10/; -others, £3 to £4 5/. Calves.—We had a smaller entry of calves.
