MOTOR CYCLE NOTES.

CLOSE AND HARD OONTEST. JOHN BULL TRIAL WINNERS. The Joiin Bull trial conducted by itlie Auckland Motor Cycle. Club is without doubt the hardest trial held in New Zealand, and to finish the course is looked upon as a very creditable performance, so much so that each man that finishes is presented with a pennant by Mrs. H. White. It is a 500-mile ride over the roughest country in the Auckland (province;' and the riders are in the saddle continuously for 24 hours, stopping only for meals. The event this year proved interesting as every man at one stage or other was in the lead. With only 90 miles to go the four leaders were W. Cronk, K. Kennerley, C. Brindle and W. Marett. Secret checks at Waitakaruru and Clevedon proved thenundoing, as they were too early, and the final result was:— Cyril Goldfinch (Levis),' IS points 1 Trevor Crowcler (Norton), 23 points .... - Bill Cronk (Velocette), 20 points o Keith Kennerley (Ariel) and Wally Marett (8.5.A.), equal, 33 points 4' Goldfinch shCwed good judgment throughout the trial and thoroughly deserved his win. Both the winner and second place men carried pillion passengers, and this should dispel any fears as regards pillion riding. Marett won the Robinson Side-car Cup for best side-cliair performance. Mr. Charlie Goldberg, New Zealand representative at the Isle of Man T.T. races, arrives in Auckland next Sunday by the Majunganui, and the A.M.C.C. will meet at the club rooms on December 2 at 8 p.m. to give him a welcome home. The club will hold a social outing next Sunday, leaving the club rooms at 10.30 a.m. The club members will be the guests of the Defence Department at Hobsonville, where an interesting day is assured. The Muriwai meeting will take place on Sunday, December 29, at 10 a.m. A programme giving opportunities for every make and. power of machine will be arranged.
