FOR SINGING.
WALTER KIRBY MEMORIAL. UNIVERSITY PROPOSALS. To establish an annual singing scholarship provided for under the will of the late Mr. Walter J. Ivirby, Professor H. Hollinrake, professor of music, made several recommendations to yesterday's meeting of the Auckland University College Council. These included the appointment of a lecturer in sin °" jug and voice production in the School of said Professor Hollinrake, "that in order to give the scholarship the highest possible standing the appointment as lecturer in singing and voice production be to Dr. b. &.■ Phillips at a salary of 35 guineas per annum. This salary will be covered by the scholar's stipend of 35 guineas, all of which must be paid over to the college aS ln Ce \uggested regulations it was recommended that the scholarship should be known as the Walter Kirb y Scholarship and be awarded annually, tenable for one year a person already holding the scholarship to be eligible for re-election on the results of the examination to be inaugurated; t le scholarship to be open to Persons of either sex between the ages of " ami 2 -, preference to be given to students undertaking, the course for the professional degree of bachelor of music.
