TWO-UP RAID.
MEN WHO ESCAPED.
ONE BREAKS WOODEN LEG.
TWO MORE FINES IMPOSED.
Two of the three men who escaped by jumping from a window a distance of 20 feet on to an iron roof when a two-up school was raided in Swanson Street last Friday night by detectives, appeared voluntarily in the Police Court this morning, when they pleaded guilty to a charge of being found in a common gaming house. One of the men suffered a broken leg —but the fractured limb happened to be of the wooden variety. The two defendants were Nicholas Jack Logpur (44), a picture framer, and Jack Marino, aged 38, beauty parlour employee. Detective Sergeant Meiklejohn said 07 men were found by the detectives when the National Sporting Club was raided on Friday night. Detective Brady, who was stationed at the rear of the premises, saw four men leave by a window and jump about 20 feet on to the top of aoi outhouse. The detective detained one man, but the other three got away. The defendants were two of these. The seventieth man was unknown. "Logpur told Detective Brady that in jumping he broke his leg—but it was a wooden one," added Mr. Meikejohn. Logpur and Marino were each fined £2.
