TO-DAY'S TURF.
AUCKLAND TROTS AT EPSOM. NERVIE'S LAST WINS THE JELLICOE. IMPROVERS' HANDICAP TO SUPERFINE. The Labour Day vacation turf programme opened with the holding of two trotting and two racing meetings, and it will be wound up on Monday with a total of ten meetings—six racing and four trotting. This afternoon the Auckland and Greymouth trots are taking place, while racing patrons are being catered for at Trentham (second day of the Wellington Racing Club's spring carnival) and Gore. After rain overnight and this morning the weather was showery at Alexandra Park. There is a good attendance and the course is in good order. Swordsman was the initial winner, defeating Great Sonoma and Sophy Bingen in the Waitemata Handicap. Superfine proved to be the best improver, being followed home by Nawton Parrish and Frank Best. In the principal event, the Jellicoe Handicap, Nervie's Last (coupled with King s Guide) secured the verdict from Treasure Bond and King's Play.
