AUSTRALIAN TURF.

MELBOURNE, October 23. A New Zealand apprentice, P. Spratt, suffered head injuries through a fall off Rose Boy at the Bacchus Marsh races to-day, and was sent to hospital for observation. His injuries are not regarded as serious. Mr. G. J. Barton cabled to-day from Christchurch that Desert Chief is not for sale, even at the large sum offered. Desert Chief's strong finish in the Caulfield Cup suggests that he has a great chance in the Melbourne Cup.
