MISS NUTSEY WELCOMED
MEDALS AND PRIZES AWARDED. There was a happy gathering at *Jie Nurses Home yesterday afternoon, when Miss E. M. Nutsey, lad}' superintendent at rlie Auckland Hospital, was welcomed home after a six months' tour of Britain and the Continent. Members of the Hospital Board and staff, the Hospital Auxiliary, wives of the honorary medical staff, visiting clergy and parents of the nurses were present. Medals and prizes were awarded to nurses who had distinguished themselves in examination and sport. "We know you were very much entitled to a holiday," said the chairman of the board, the Rev. W. C. Wood. He added that he did not think it would be any exaggeration to say that' the board had never been in a more critical position than it was at the present time, and that tlie board was looking forward to the assistance which Miss Nutsey would bo able to give as a result of her experiences and her study of hospital work abroad. Mr. Wood added a tribute to the splendid manner in which Miss
V. >1. Cussen, the assistant lady superintendent, had filled Miss Nutsey's position during her absence. Saying how glad she was to be back again. Miss Nutsey mentioned that she had travelled over 3000 miles, but she thought there was "no place like Mew Zealand." She had visited several hospitals in Europe and was impressed by their efficiency. To the board members she presented a brick from the London home of Florence Nightingale, for incorporation in future additions to the nurses' home. Making the presentations to the nurses, Mr. Wood said that the results r.f the examinations had been exceedingly good. Gold medals were presented to" Miss J. McGrath and Miss _M. D. Brown and a silver medal to Miss E. Fordliam for highest marks in the halfyearly term examinations for final-year nurses. A prize of books, presented by Dr. J. W. Craven, the medical superintendent, was awarded to Miss N. P. Kendon, who gained highest marks in the Dominion for the State examination, and Miss K. Wade received the Mueller Tennis Cup for her winning of the tennis championship. The medals were pinned on by Miss Nutsev, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver and MrsTW. T. Anderton. During ifternoon tea, songs were given by Mrs. W. T. Anderton and Miss Julie Williamsand Miss G. Piggot gave a pianoforte solo. Among those present were: Dr. J. W. C-aven, Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Maguire, Mrs. M. M. Dreaver, Mrs. W. T. Anderton, Mrs A D. Campbell, Mrs. Alfred ividd, Canon J. Haselden, Dr. and Mrs. J. Ha-die Neil. Mrs. Keith Macky, Mrs. W. \ TT'airclough, Mrs. Lawrence Ludbrook, Miss Baglev, Miss M. Rudd, Miss A. Blewett, Miss M. Broun.
