MAYOR'S CABLE.
TASMAN FLIGHT.
"We Don't Want You to Take Any Risks."
CONGRATULATIONS SENT,
On behalf of the citizens of Auckland, the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, sent a cablegram of congratulation to Miss Jean Batten this afternoon, the message urging her not to attempt the Tasman crossing. The cablegram was couched in the following terms: — "The citizens of Auckland congratulate you on your historic achievement. There is a pronounced feeling in the community that you should not fly the Tasman. We all know you can do it easily, but we don't want you to take any risk in a single engine 'plane. Without wishing in any way to discourage you, I would personally assure you that your fellow citizens would welcome your agreement to what I know to be their wishes in this matter. Kindest regards from all."
