SOUTH AFRICAN SALES.

JAPANESE DOMINATE MARKET. "UNHEALTHY" COMPETITION. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 12. Japan is continuing to dominate the market in South African combing wools, taking all available at prices averaging 2d to 2%d above Australian. London wool Ibrokers consider the continuance of such ! competition highly artificial and unhealthy. English and Continental buyers are not prepared -to pay such prices. POSITION AT BRADFORD. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 12. Bradford is confident and buying is brisker. Yarns are a shade dearer. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. i SYDNEY, October 12. At the Sydney wool sales to-day 12,443 bales were offered, and 11,554 were sold. Also 1831 bales were sold privately. Yorkshire, France and Germany operated freely, with useful support from Australian mills. Better class fleece woois and good skirtings were in keen request, and were 2% to 5 per cent higher. All other descriptions ruled fully firm. Greasy Merino sold to 21% d. The average price of wool sold in Sydney last week was £17 2/1 a bale, and 13.1 d a lb.
