THIS MORNING'S WORK. PREPARING FOR AVONDALE. SEVERAL HORSES GO FAST. The weather was showery during training operations at Ellerslie this morning, but the going on A'o. 2 grass track, which was open for fa6t work, was good, though a bit on the dead side. Higli Star wae the first to work, and after running his first three furlongs in 39 l-ss, completed six in 1.20 2-5. Ringshot, who was to have gone with him over the i last half-mile', was slow to get going, but finished up by running the latter distance in 53 3-ss. There was little between Roman Mascot and Whirlniint at' the conclusion of seven furlongs, which occupied 1.34, the first three being covered in 40 3-ss. Haputale worked lazily over five furlongs, which took 1.10 1-5, the last four in 565. The stablemates Persian Lady and Morning Sun were on terms after traversing five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, the firs: two taking 275. Dialogue and Gay Princess finishell in front of Gay Broney at the end of six furlongs in 1.20 2-5. Dialogue ie making steady progress. Gay Defence ran his first two furlongs in 265, and completed five in 1.6. He was loafing a bit at the finish, but looks all the better for his race at Ellerslie on Saturday. Master Brierly finished lip his work by sprinting his last three furlongs in 39 4-ss. Littie Man was sent half a mile, taking 53 2-ss. Lady Diana was timed i to complete six furlongs in 1.20 3-5, the first three in 40 1-os. Marjory Daw strode over six furlongs in 1.29 3-5, the last three in 43 3-ss. The best five furlongs of the morning was credited to Bon Star, who ran the distance in 1.5 2-5, the first two taking 25 2-53. Gar Vaals, who went with him',' finished a cduple of lengths away. The Jumpers. All Irish (Fergus) and Arabesque (Turvey) gave a safe display over six hurdles in the centre. They jumped the first two on terms, and then All Irish drew out, and was well in front at the finish. Mountain Bruce (Turvey) and Speedfast (J. Sharkey) set out to jump four of the same hurdles. Speedfast fell-heavily at the second fence, and Mountain Bruce finished his task alone. Sharkey looked to have received a bad fall, but recovered shortly afterwards and again took Speedfast over two more fences. He jumped the first safely, but hit the second very hard. HORSES FOR SOUTH. Laughing Lass is leaving for Marton this afternoon. This filly will be taken on to Wellington, and will be accompanied bv Entheos. Star Artist, Rollicker and Right Comedy are returning to Te Rapa to-day, and this trio may also go on to the Wellington meeting. Mazir and Scotland are remaining here for the Dargaville meeting. F Davis leaves this afternoon for Woodville with Red Manfred, Aiwai, Francis Drake and Mandamus. These four will probably be raced at Trentham.
