YACHTING.
THE "EARLY BIRDS." ft Several units of the yachting fleet were out stretcfliing sails on Saturday. There was a steady breeze from tlie sou'-sou'-west and boats made good time both up and down the harbour. Amongst the "early birds" were lluimai, Tawhiri, Medina, Ranoni and a new 10footer (S2) named Annette, recently launched by Mr. W. Rogers, Curran Street. She carries a Bermudan type mainsail, with a sail area of 2SO square feet in jib and mainsail. She was going very freely, and should be a keen competitor in t'his class during the coming season. PONSONBY MODEL YACHT CLUB. The Ponsonby Model Yacht Club held three general handicap races in St. Mary's Bay yesterday afternoon. The racing was well contested, and the finishes close. Results: —First race: Waitere 11. (ser.) 1, Ma.vbo (6m) ; f 2. Silver Fern (4m) 3. Second racer Renown (3m) 1, Rhythm (5Jm) 2, Waitere 11. (scr) 3. Third race: Rhythm 1, Renown 2, Silver Fern 3. Messrs. H. Erickson and J. Ambridge were in charge.
