MERCHANTS' OFFER.
REFUSED BY FISHERMEN. COMMISSION ASKED FOR. The wholesale fish merchants met this morning to; consider proposals from the seine boat fishermen, who are demanding 2d per lb for all snapper delivered into the Auckland market. After consideration the/wholesale merchants, who were unanimous, offered IJd per lb for all snajiper and tarakihi, as' a temporary measure only, pending the setting up of a Government Commission. During the last six months the price paid to the fishermen, it is stated, has been generally advanced by an amount which represents up to the present an increase of 40 per cent. As the fish merchants' offer has not been accepted by the fishermen the merchants have requested the Government to get up a commission and to treat the matter as urgent. /
