Both the Scottish acre and. the Irish acre are larger than the English or standard acre, the former in the proportion of 1.27 : 1; the latter in the proportion of 1.02 : 1. The English or standard acre contains 4 roods, or 160 perches, or 4840 square yards. One-tenth of an acre is called a square chain, the linear chain being 22 yards.
