"D.G." ON COINS.
RESTORATION REQUESTED. "BY THE GRACE OF GOD." , ■ - A motion "That the council urges the Government, when the new issue of New Zealand coins is under consideration, to restore the letters "D.G.," which have held an honoured place on British coinage in years past and were removed by the last Government when the latest issue was undertaken," was moved by the retiring president of the Council of Christian Congregations, the Rev. J. A. Thomson, at the annual meeting last night, and carried unanimously. "Some movement has been made in this direction by the Methodist Conference," said Mr. Thomson, "and has been supported by Archbishop Averill. The chairman of the Methodist Conference has already been in touch with the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, and a motion from this meeting may give added force to his representations. The letters <D.G.' give recognition of the fact that the Kins rules by the grace of God, and we consider that that recognition should not be lost sight of." ' In seconding the motion, the Rev. E. D. Patchett said that he wondered, as many did, "what was behind the droppins of the letters from the coinage?" He thought there was a very general feeling in favour of their being restored.
