ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
VERDICT AT THE INQUEST. An inquiry into the death of Mr. Hugo Charles Whitmore, aged 69, of 2, Prime Road, Grey Lynn, who was killed when knocked down by a motor car at the corner of Ponsonby Koad and Hepburn Street on August 29, was held yesterday. Medical evidence was given that death was due to a fractured skull and laceration of the brain. the driver of the car, Allan William Franklin, said he was travelling at between 20 and 25 miles an hour on his correct side of the road. Near Hepburn Street he saw deceased on the tram rails, with his back to the car, about 40ft away. He applied his brakes and swerved, but was unable to avoid striking deceased. After other witnesses had been called, the coroner, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.
