TO-DAY'S TURF.

TAUMARUNUI RACES ORAC'S CHIEF EVENT. Hurdles to Race Whip. The Taumarunui Racing Club's spring ' meeting is being concluded at Paeroa to-day in beautiful weather. There is a good attendance, and the track is in excellent order. A Close Finish. The withdrawal of Brown Lap from the Rotokohu Handicap left a field of six to face the starter, and when the final figures were adjusted most money was invested upon Philemup, Gay Flier and Ellanui. Aramis, Ellanui and jay Flier were the quickest to find their feet, and Ellanui led along tlie back from Gay Flier, Aramis, Philemup, Miss Musketoon and Rothoon. Gay Flier and Ellanui were practically on terms as they raced across the top, where Aramis, Philemup, Rothoon and Miss Musketoon were following in that order. There was 110 change irito the straight, but about a furlong from home Philemup challenged Ellanui, and in a fine finish got up to beat him by a head, with Miss Musketoon two lengths and a half away third. Gay Flier was fourth, and then camo Aramis and Rothoon. Favourite Fails in Hurdles. Valpai, En Tour and Race Whip were in most demand in the Second Handicap Hurdles, victory going to the last-named by half a length. When they had settled down Race Whip had charge from Kanapa, Rusty Jack and Survanna, and passing the stands Race Whip was showing the way to Overlap, Kanapa, Rusty Jack, Valpai, Survanna and En Tour. Along tlie back the first-named trio were followed by Valpai, with Rusty Jack six lengths away, and En Tour heading the others. At the home turn Race Whip was just clear of Kanapa and Valpai, with the others tailed off, and he went on to score by half a length from Valpai, who beat Kanapa by two lengths. En Tour, Survanna and Rusty Jack were next. .An Outsider-Scores. Whirlmint, Full o' Scotch and Seaman were the best backed in tlie October Hack Handicap, but in a great finish the little-fancied Gadger beat the favourite by a short head. Joyzell and Gadger were first out, and going out of the straight they were attended by Full o' Scotch, Seaman, Pound Sterling and' Illimani. Along the back Gadger had drawn a shade clear, being followed by Joyzell, Full o' Scotch, Pound Sterling and Seaman. Gadger was still the pilot as they raced across the top from Full o' Scotch and Pound Sterling, with Joyzell, Seaman, Leo Colossus, Illimani and Whirlmint in that order. There was no change among- the' leaders as they came round the turn, where Whirlmint was beginning a fast run on the outside. However, although she sustained the run, Whirlmint failed to reach Gadger by a short head, with Full o' Scotch ! only a similar distance away next. Leo Colossus was fourth, and then came Joyzell, Seanirfu, Pound -Sterling and Illimani.

Decision Upheld. H. X. Wiggins, who was suspended for a month on Saturday, applied for a rehearing to-day, and this was granted. However, after hearing the evidence, the judicial committee unanimously decided to adhere to their original decision. All the Way. Tradesman, Lord Val and King Musk were schatched from the President's Handicap, and at the close of betting the chief fancies .were Bonny Gay, Silver Briar and Te Hai. However, a surprise was again in store, the outsider, Orac, winning and paying over double figures. Orac began smartly, and took up the early running from Silver Briar, Te Hai, Bonny Gay and Sinking Fund. Except that Te Hai had headed Silver Briar along the back there was no alteration, and across the top the order was Orac, Te Hai," Bonny Gay, Silver Briar, Sinking Fund and Delrain. Orac was still in the van rounding the home turn, where Te Hai, Bonny Gay, Sinking Fund | and Silver Briar were all handy. Sinking Fund then came fast, but failed to reach Orac by a short neck, with Bonny Gay a lenjrth away. Silver Briar, Delrain and Te Hai finished as named.
