WEEK-END MISHAPS.

TWO CARS COLLIDE. _____ <£> GREAT SOUTH ROAD SMASH. BOTH DRIVERS INJURED. When , two motor vehicles were involved in a collision just after 10 o'clock yesterday morning on the Great South Road, near Wiri, minor injuries were suffered by the drivers. At a bend in the highway, Mr. Abraham Cunningham, of Milton Road, Herne Bay, who was driving a small car southward, came into collision with a car which was being driven northward by Mr. William Ilenry Jones, of Taumarunui. Injuries to the shoulder and ribs were suffered by Mr. Cunningham, and after being treated by Dr. T. K. Plunkett, of Papatoetoe, he was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. After 'receiving medical attention he was able to go home.

A cut on the wrist and bruises to the head were suffered by Mr. Johns. A passenger in Mr. Cunningham's car also received slight cuts from flying glase, but they were both able to go to their homes after receiving medical treatment. Passengers in both cars suffered slightly from shock.

Both cars were badly damaged, one of the right-hand wheels of the smaller car being torn from the axle, and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene by break-down wagons.

The occupants of a small car driven by Mr. F. T. Martin, of 1, St. Francis de Sale, Street, Ponsonby, had a lucky escape from serious injury in a collision late on .Saturday afternoon with a truck at Avondale. Four young women in the car suffered shock and minor abrasions, and were taken to their homes in a St. John ambulance. , The truck, owned by the Crum Brick, Titc and Pottery Company, Limited, and driven by Mr. G. A. Crum, was nyt badly damaged, but extensive damage was done to the car. Motor Cyclist Thrown. When the motor cycle he was riding in Queen Street, Onehuiifra. failed to negotiate a bend, Mr. James Halliday, aged 29, single of Favona Road, Otahuhu, received concussion. After the motor cycle ran a short distance on the footpath it hit a garage door an/1 the rider was thrown heavily. The injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition is not serious. A fracture of the left leg was suffered by Mr. James Aldrcd Arthur, aged 22, of 101, Richmond Road, Ponsonby, when the motor cycle has was riding collided with a motor car on Sandrin.ahain Road yesterday He was taken to tlio Auckland Hospital in a St. John Ambulance, a,nd his condition is satisfactory. When he swerved to avoid a car on the corner of Carlton Gore Rwid and Hill Street, yesterday morning, a cyclist. John Purches, aped 10, of 13S, Vincent Street, City, bit the kerb and was thrown from his bicycle. He nveived injuries to the back and* abrasion?. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John Ambulance, but was allowed to go home after receiving treatment. A fractured leg was suffered by Mr. James Brown, aged 25, of 505, New North Road, Kingsland, when playing football at Onehunga on Saturdav. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John Ambulance. His condition is satisfactory. Pedestrian Injured. When walking along Massey Road, East Mangere, about 8 o'clock on Saturday night,.Mr. John Parr, aged 37, married, of Henwood Road, Mangere, was struck by a lorry driven by Mr. Kenneth Alfred Pipe, manager for Lichtenstein and Arnoldson, Mangere. The lorry was travelling in the same direction as the pedestrian when the driver swerved to the side of the road to avoid an approaching car, and struck Mr. Parr, who was walking on the extreme edge of tlie bitumen in the company of his wife. ! The injured man was taken to Dr. E. R. Lange, of Otahuhu, and later conveyed to the Auckland Hospital by private car, suffering from severe concussion and abrasions. His condition is not serious.
