CONSISTENT FORGER.
TWO YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. MAN'S BAD RECORD. A record of previous convictions for forgery followed by substantial terms of imprisonment was revealed when Alfred Hinton, a middle-aged man, appeared before Mr. Justice Fair this morning on 11 charges of false pretences. The offences, which were admitted, occurred at Auckland and Napier. Prisoner was not represented by counsel. lie stated that there was very little money involved and that some of the goods obtained had been returned. The aipount of money involved was about £50, said his Honor, who quoted from the prisoner's list to show that Hinton had been sentenced to 18 months' hard labour in 1922 for forgery, to three years in 1924 for the same crime, and in 1927 to five years and declared an habitual criminal on 13 charges of forgery. In 1934 he had been released and discharged from the classification of an habitual criminal. The community must be protected from being preyed on and it appeared that HintVm would continue his method of raising money when in difficulties, said his Honor. He added that he had seriously considered declaring Hinton an habitual criminal again, but had decided to give him another chance. Sentences aggregating two years' imprisonment were imposed.
