TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH. MOUNT MORGANS IMPROVE. i AUSTRALIANS ACTIVE. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Exchange • opened brightly this morning, with business spread over a wide range. The main features were the improvement in Blount Morgans and firmness in Broken Hills and G. J. Coles. Buyers remained steady for most banks. Commercials were unaltered at 18/4, and New Zealand seemed firm, having buyers at £1 18,3, sellers £1 19/. Insurances were fully quoted but no sales were made, values remaining on a par with late rates. Xew Zealand Refrigerating eased by 3d in the fully paids, with filial quotations Id either side of 19/.
Miscellaneous issues were active, Australians predominating. Values were firm, the only 'reduction being in Dunlops, which confirmed recent weaker levels with a sale 4d lower, at 17/1. Broken Hills improved by 7d on sales of contributing shares. Rights again brought 2/4, the market closing Id either side. G. J. Coles recovered to £3 17/, and for other issues buyers crept in at occasionally higher rates. Mount Morgans were the bright spot in the mining, moving up to 14/3, at which price more were wanted, sellers at 14/4. Brian Borus were quoted wide, sellers 6'/id, buyers 3d.
