FIRST CALL STEADY. BANK OF NEW ZEALAND FIRMER. BROKEN HILLS HIGHER. There was steady bidding on the Auckland Stock Exchange at tne first call of the week. In the banking section a noticeable feature was a slight firming in New Zcalands. There were buyers at last sale price, £118/6, but lowest sellers asked £1 10/3." Commercials Were again in demand at 18/4, but holders moved up a penny, to 18/7. The preferences, sold 1/6 higher, at £9 3/6, with a subsequent market between £9 2/6 and .£9 o/. New South Wales sold unchanged at £'32 12/6, after which sellers withdrew, leaving buyers in at £32 7/6. In insurances the chief feature was a further firming in South British, • which had buyers at £4 10/ and sellers 1/6 higher. In Australian industrials Broken Hills and Colonial Sugar were most prominent. The former sold 7d higher, at £3 17/3, I with more wanted at that price and | sellers 2d above. Colonial Sugars had their I best sale for some time with a transaction | at £43 5/, a rise of 7/6. Sellers then with; drew, buyers still in at £43. Goldsbroughs were offered 3d cheaper, at £1 13/9, ■ and Woolworths (Sydney) were slightlv firmer between £5 7/6 and £5 10/. In local issues Auckland Gas looked slightly firmer, with sellers 2d higher, at £1 3/2, buyers steady at £1 2/0. Mining had few changes, Marthas being , quoted from £1 0/1 to £1 0/3. Government stocks were in steady demand for all issues, the only offering being of '"37-'4o's, for which £101 15/ was wanted. Amalgamated Brick debentures sold 5/ lower, at £99 15/, after which the market rested between £99 and £100. Quiet at Noon. Little business was clone during the morning, and only three issues figured in the sales list at noon. Broken Hills sold at £3 17/4%, a fraction higher than the morning rate, and Coles' rights were down 1/. at £1 13/., . 1 Interest centred in Consolidated Bricks, three parcels of which changed hands at the current rate of 9/6. Milne and Chovce had firmer offers, 14/6 for the ordinaries and 14/3 for the debenture stock; no sellers in either case. . . ... For Goldsbroughs a buyer came in at £1 13/3, and Woolworths (Sydney) also had a better offer of £5 8/.
