I j WINS AMERICAN OPEN. i YOUNG BRITON'S TRIUMPH. i NEW YORK, October 3. 1 Miss Pam Barton (Britain) to-day won the women's American golf championship at Summit, New Jersey, defeating Miss Maureen Crews, 4 and 3, in a 36-hole i match. I Miss Barton is the first English winner : since 1913. I In the semi-final round Miss Barton had | defeated Miss M. Miley (Kentucky), 3 | and 1, and Miss Crews had defeated Miss K. OPEN DAY AT HAMILTON. MURRAY AND MOS.S. An open day was held at St. Andrews links, Hamilton, yesterday, when a fair representation of professionals and ama- , teurs took part. The visitors found the course in magnificent order. The performances of A. Murray and E. J. Moss were awaited with considerable interest and at the end of 3G holes medal there was only a stroke between them. Murray won the event with a total of 133, and Moss was 154. Murray's rounds were 70 and 74 and Moss' 75 and 79. In the morning F. liutter had a line round of 75, marred by a 7 at the twelfth. The local professional G. Melvin had a popular win in one of the handicap events for the professionals and Rutter won the morning bogey. In the amateurs J. I'ountney, of Hamilton, won the medal contest over the 3(5 holes, with rounds'of 7il and 180, a total of 150. j J. Pelham, Manngakiekie, was second with 78 and 82—100.

AUCKLAND CLUB. Under excellent conditions the championships were continued at Middlemore. The results are as follow Seniors. —B. H. Menzies beat R. B. Wilson, 5 and 4; H. B. Lusk beat R. D. Wright, G and 5; J. I'. Aldred beat R. D. Horton, 2 and 1. /Intermediate.—ll. V. Coverdale heat K. M. Wilson, at the nineteenth ; G. C. Henderson beat J. B. Lusk, 7 and (i; B. Armstrong beat D. A. TITIRANGI CLUB. In the senior championship only two matches were played at Titirangi. The second round was completed when J. Galloway beat R. J. Graham, G and 4. Galloway now meets J. M. C'oltman In one soni-final. In the other semi-final J. H. Young played really fine golf to decisively beat F. W. I-ucas, 7 and C. The highlight of the second round of the club championships played by members of the Akarana Club was the meeting of two of the club's most prominent players, H. St. C. Brown and Pax Smith. This eagerly awaited contest provided a keenly fought battle in which there were thrills aplenty, and it resulted In victory for Smith on the eighteenth green.
