.. 4 PAPAKURA CLUB. A hundred members and representatives of surrounding clubs were present at the official opening of the I'apakura Tennis Club's courts oil Saturday. The president, Mr. J. It. Wilson, referred to hts active association with the game in I'apakura, which went hack nearly 50 years. He expressed pleasure In seeing the splendid progress the club had made, and at the large attendance, and congratulated the club on- again entering the outer suburban competition after a year's spell. At the Waiata Tennis Club's opening on Saturday, after a short address by the president, Mr. H. G. Carr, and the president of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. H. Clay, the trophies won during the last season were presented to:—Ladies' championship singles, Mrs. L. 11. I'egler: men's championship singles, R. B. Buckland; ladies' championship doubles, Mrs. L. 11. I'egler and Miss E. Colby; men's championship doubles, H. G. Carr and C. Jarman ; combined championship doubles! Mr. and Mrs. L. 11. I'egler; 'ladies' handicap doubles, Mrs. S. E. Haycock and Miss E. Colby: men's handicap doubles, W. Frew and F. Gray; combined handicap doubles, Miss L. Davles and R. B. Buckland; ladies' handicap singles (Goodall Cup), Miss E. Colby; men's handicap singles (Turner Cup), R. B. Verry.

Mr. C. McCullougb, chairman of the Mount Roskiil Road Board, declared the courts open and donated a cup for competition among junior members of the club. After the president's wife, Mrs. Carr, had served the first ball, a progressive tournament was held. OWAIRAKA CLUB. I At the official opening day of the Carlton , Tennis Club, Onehunga, on Saturday, the' Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. J. Park, complimented the club on its achievement in enlarging and modernising the pavilion. ] Mrs. F. Short played the first ball. A l tournament was won by F. Northrop and Mrs. Rollerson. BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE. The ten chip courts at the Birkenhead and Northcote Tennis Club were officially opened for the new season by the presi- ; dent, Mr. 11. W. Dyer, who welcomed a gathering of about 100 members and visitors. He said a most successful season was assumed, a large number of new members being enrolled. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association was represented by Messrs. S. A. Cleal. vice-president, and P. A. Germann, assistant-secretary. Addresses were also given by Messrs.
