CROQUET AND BOWLS.
WAITEMATA CLUB'S FUNCTION. The visitors to the Waitemata Bowling and Croquet Clubs' greens at Northcote on Saturday constituted a record for the opening of the season function. Wearing a blue tailored suit, with white relief, and small navy straw hat, Mrs. 6. B. Chii'Xery assisted her husband, who is the president of the club, to make everyone welcome and spend an enjoyable afternoon. After she had thrown the kitty well up the green and delivered the first bowl, and the bowling green was declared open for play, a similar function was performed on the croquet lawn by the president, Mrs. W. K. A. Stewart, who played the first ball between the hoops, Mrs. Chinnery likewise declaring this lawn open | for croquet. Messrs. W. J. Truscott, A. Dignan, and M. J. Walsh represented the Auckland Bowling Centre, and Messrs. W. J. Lyon and A. G. Osborne, the respective Parliamentary representatives for Waitemata and Manukau, were accompanied by their wives. The neighbouring boroughs were represented by the Mayor and Mayoress of Northcote, Mr. and Mrs. R. Martin, and the deputyMayor of Birkenhead, Mr. Albert Hadfield, and Mrs. Hadfield.
