TO-DAY IN CHRISTCHURCH, (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Brisk dealings marked this morning's call 011 the Stock Exchange. The markets closed with values steady at recent rates, j Kauri Timbers, National Electrics and I Broken Hills sold at firm prices, while | good buying support came in for the Martha group of mining shares. Government stocks were freely quoted, and banks I remained firm. Unions had a buyer at £9 9/9. After reported sales at 3d less, New Zealands were quoted-from £1 18/4 to £1 19/, and Nationals (N.Z.) from £2 19/6 to £3 0/3. Tooth's Brewery confirmed recent reductions in selling limits with I business (id lower than a fortnight ago. New Zealand Breweries were quoted between £2 11/6 and £2 11/0. In the miscellaneous issues Broken Hills moved up by Bd, but rights dropped again, finishing at 2/4. the final quotations being 2/2 to 2/5. Kauri Timbers had a sale and buyers remained in at £1 4/9. National Electrics, after reported dealings at 15/, sold at 14/9, and more were wanted at that figure, but there were no sellers. Mining is fairly quiet. Brian Bonis, Central Shotovers are coming on the list. Morgans recovered a fraction, with buyers at 13/10 and sellers Id away.
