LAWN TENNIS.
The official opening ; of" the Birkdale Tennis Club's courts .for the season has been fixed for Saturday, October 17. One team is to be entered this year for the ,C grade competitions of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. The report referred to t-he satisfactory position of the club. It was agreed that the credit balance be expended in resurfacing two courts and in other substantial ground improvements.
The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. G. Mills, Mayor of Birkenhead; president, Mr. W. S. Garrett; vicepresidents, Messrs. Albert Hadfield, James Priekett, A. E. Henley, H. W. LamD, H. Scliorman, sen., W. B. Darlow, L. Castleton, G. B. Hewson, W. Hilder. C. Verran and C. Inwards; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. J. Osborte; assistant secretary, Mr. G. Davis; captain, Mr. It. Arrn'tage; committee, Messrs. Schorman, L. R. Moller, R. it. Moller.and F. Brodie; auditor, Mr. P. J. McGovern; delegate to Auculaiid Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. R. Armitage; ladies', committee, Mesdames Fitzgerald, W. Hilder, Misses R. Chetwynd and G. Evans.
