LEVEL CROSSING.
SCHEME FOR ELIMINATION. WORK OX THE SOUTH ROAD. Tlie work of eliminating level crossings in the Auckland Province is being steadily advanced by the Public Works Department, and the latest undertaking in this connection to be started is at Hopuhopu, in the vicinity of the military camp just north of Ngaruawahia. It is the only remaining level crossing on the Great South Road between Auckland and Otor.ohanga, except for the crossing at Hamilton, and with its elimination motorists will be provided with an uninterrupted run, save at the latter point, of 120 miles. At Hopuhopu an overhead bridge in concrete, with a width of 24ft, is being provided. Other work on the Great South Road includes the improving of the approach to the Pokeno overhead bridge. At Dairy Flat an old road bridge is being replaced with a modern concrete structure, and a winding strip of the | main highway is to be brought up to I modern standards of alignment. Work has already been started, and a camp lias been established to accommodate between 30 and 40 workmen.
