LADIES' GOLF.

PUPUKE LADIES' CLUB.

FOUR PLAYERS LEFT. PROVINCIAL TOURNEY. TITLE-HOLDER DEFEATED. The stage was set for the semi-finals and the final of the Auckland ladies' provincial golf championship after yesterday's play. The four players left haj displayed consistent form and the contest remained in a most interesting position. Mrs. Rushton, Auckland, and Miss Huston. Manawatu, were eliminated onlv alter a stern struggle, but Mrs. Colegroves victory over .Mrs. Deighton, the title-holder, was more decisive. Mis. Colegrove played really well and her

approximate modal round was just ovei SO. ilis. Jacobsen outplayed her less experienced opponent, Miss Stewart, Whangarei, onco she settled down to her game, but the visitor displayed promise. _ J hough ilrs. !• erguson was never behind in her game with Miss Illston there was very little between them all through, and it was not until the eighteenth that Mrs. I'erguson settled the game with a 4. and that after being bunkered with her second, to win. 1 up. Twice during the match Mrs. Ferguson jvas 2 up and that was now she stood after the fourteenth. At that stage eight holes had been halved and Mrs. Ferguson had won four and lost two. Miss Illston took the fifteenth in 4 and the seventeenth in a birdie 4 it- , K ']" 1U ' G the game, and pr'obablv the Middlemore player considered herself fortunate to recover well from the eighteenth bunker and take the match. Miss Illston s golf shows distinct possibilities as she has an essential asset in her driving power. Her swing is on (lie full side for her short iron play. Mrs. Deighton in being defeated bv iris, tolegrove struck a very steadv plaver who took every advantage from Mrs Deighton's mistakes. The loser was at fault with her drive in the early stages "id after five holes was no less than that number down. She stuck to what seemed an impossible task and at the tenth had reduced the big lead to 1 down. This, however, she could not recover, and Mrs. Colegrove had her turn again from the thirteenth, where she commenced a run of three winning holes to settle the issue. After being 2 down to Mrs. Rushton at the eighth. Mrs. Glanville fought a stern contest and eventually won at the nineteenth after both players had missed a winning chance with easy putts on the eighteenth. In the Middlemore Cup Miss Ballantyno did well to defeat Miss McCready by a substantial margin. Detiiilo<l results:—
