SOCCER CODE.
FIXTURES DELAYED
MANY MATCHES YET TO PLAY.
AUCKLAND'S WORRIES.
The position into which the Soccer code in'_ Auckland lias drifted, allegedly due to interruption of the season's programme by the Chatham Cup national trophy contest, was discussed at the meeting of the Control Board last night. Mr. Leo Munro presiding. It was stated til at Thistle, who reached the final of the Cup, had still four matches to play. The points separating the teams in the senior championship were so close that it appeared likely that all these games would have to he played and this an ould prolong the season. There was also the Falcon Cup competition to he got off. Several members expressed the opinion that some of the games should be played during the week, commencing at 4.30 p.m. This suggestion was referred to the fixtures committee to take what action it felt justified under the circumstances.
The introduction of a different method of playing Chatham Cup fixtures, as sugby the Auckland Association to the -New Zealand Council earlier in the season, was fully discussed, and it was decided that Mr. P. Neesham, the originator of the suggested new scheme, should place it before the other associations with a view to concerted action.
A letter was received from the MetroCollege Club drawing the board's attention to ,-the fact that Wood, of .Thistle, the only player of that team who had been selected to play in the representative game against Wellington, had played for his club last Saturday and not for Auckland, while the Metro-College team had been weakened by the inclusion of Speed in the representative side. The board considered the position, and it agreed that, as the explanation, by Wood had been satisfactory to the selector, it could take 110 action. Advice was received from the New Zealand Council that the Auckland Football Association's nomination of Mr. W. .T. Lyon. Ml\. as its representative on the council had been confirmed.
