Idavale was unplaced in the Three and Four-year-old Handicap, while Prince Pombal and Cherry King were unplaced in the Flying Handicap. Result:— ENCOURAGE STAKES of £120. One mile and a quarter. CERNE ABBAS (New Zealand), b f, 3.vrs, by Lord Warden —Monoxide (Mr. C. N. Draper), 7.13— T. Wallace 1 AMUSING. 7.11—0. Callinan 2 MENU, S.7—lt. Cox 3 Sixteen started. Head; length. Time 2.10J —a race record. ASCOT MEETING. FIREBRICK RUNS SECOND. MELBOURNE, September 30. At the Ascot meeting to-day Firebrick was second and Night Club third in the Maiden Hurdle Race. Gay Songster in the Nullabor Maiden Handicap, Counternight in the Chelmsford Novice Handicap, Cape Race and Valarth in the Halsbury Welter Handicap were unplaced.
