BAPTIST ASSEMBLY.

CONFERENCE IN AUCKLAND. OPENING ON WEDNESDAY. The Baptist churches of the Dominion begin their fifty-fourth annual conference at the Baptist Tabernacle, Upper Queen Street, 011 Wednesday next under the presidency of Rev. A. Anstiee, of the Lmwood Church, Cliristchurch. About 150 delegates are expected to attend it and matters of supreme importance to the denomination will engage their attention. ~ 0 A vigorous piece of church extension work was inaugurated during the year on the West Coast of the South Island under the direction of Rev. F. A. Parry and new causes have been undertaken elsewhere. The foreign missionary enterprise has commanded the enthusiastic support of the denomination and three returned missionaries have toured the Dominion in the interests of the great cause to which they have dedicated their lives. Rev. H. A. Jones, of Bralimanbaria, and Dr. Nola Ivory, of the Mission Hospital at Chandpur, East Bengal, will take part in the assembly, and Rev. Royston Brown, who has just completed his studies at the Baptist College, will be designated for work in India. At one of the evening meetings the memory jof Dr. John Clifford will be recalled, addresses on his life and work being delivered by the Rev. J. K. Archer and Dr. Alex. Hodge. At another the Tabernacle choir wil render a selection of negro spiritual songs. The Assembly picnic will be held at the Manurewa children's home on Saturday, October 10. The secretary and treasurer of the Baptist Union and Missionary Society is Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles and the officer is stationed in Wellington.
