DEPUTATION TO MINISTER.

The need for a long range view in the organisation and ro-estabhshment of the kauri gun industry in New <«r lard was emphasised this morning by the ? Minister of Industries and Com."the Hon. D. G Sullivan wta. meeting a deputation of produce!,, me chants.'brokers and exporters of kauu num. The Minister discussed the whoh. question of the industry. Mr. Sullivan drew the attention of the deputations to the Industrial Efficiency Bill which is now before tlie House, and suggested that a plan should be prepared which would cover the wliolt industry from the producing to the exporting end. The first step was to ascertain the country's resouices o kauri gum, and secondly, the Wost economical way of producing it. 1,1 third step was to determine the use that could be made of the land after the irum had been extracted, and the fourtli step in seeing that the costs of production were such that the industry could compete with the synthetic gums now being used. Representatives of all department® ol the industry would probably form one of the industrial committtees to be set up under the new Act.
