MATRON FAREWELLED.
EVELYN FIRTH HOME. In honour of Miss L. M. Bird, A.R.R.C., who is retiring at the end of the month from the position of matron of the Lvelyn Firth Home, a farewell function organised by the Returned Army Nursing Sisters' Association was held at the home on Saturday aitcvnooji. Masses of spring flowers adorned the wido sunny verandah, where the gathering was held, and the dining room was similarly decorated. The president of the association, M : ss Mirams, and tin honorary scrotal \, Mrs. 1' J. North, received the visiters. Mr. Walmsley presented Miss Bird with a crystal table lamp and a bouquet on behalf of the patients, and thanked her for her kindness and consideration to the patients. He wished her happiness and go:d health in ier retirement. On behalf of the sisters, Miss Mirams presented Miss Bird with a spray of red anemones and cyclamen and an evening handbag of black silk. She conveyed to Miss Bird the good wishes of the association nrd wished her a pleasant holiday abroad. Miss Bird suitably responded. Dur'ng the afternoon an enjoyable musical programme was presented, including songs presented by Mrs. Preston Thomas, accompanied by Mrs. P. Pres-
ton, and Mr. Arthur H. Turner, accompanied by Mrs. Chaney. Humorous monologues by Mrs. Reston were also enjoyed.. Committee members of the association served afternoon tea. The sisters present were: Miss Mirams (president), Miss A. Bagley (vice-presi-dent), Mrs. P. .J. North (hon. secretary), Mesdames M. R. McKenzie, H. M. Mulcock, Latclimore, H. G. Warren, Tracy - Inglis, H. Whitefield, A. A. Evans, G. Re'ed, F. C. Webster, G. Harrison, A. W. Fielder, R. Gibbons, Misses Bravshaw, Mclntyrc, K. Wright, Martyn, I. Hood, V. Oppenheim, C. Cherry, M. Rudd, M. Sutherland, A. Keith, B. Burke, R. Binsted. E. Stronach, M. Boyd, E. A. C*rant, A. M. Bovd, and E. J. Austen. Dr. R. H. Walton, Dr. and Mrs, Tcwsley, and the patients and staff were also present.
