SHIP GROUNDS ON BAR
DAMAGE TO PROPELLER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Sunday. The motor ship Hokitika, entering port on Saturday evening at Hokitika, found the channel most difficult, and grounded. The bow was stuck for some time. By expert seamanship Captain Nalder manoeuvred the vessel seaward, in spite of the steering gear having jammed. At the third attempt Captain Nalder succeeded in negotiating the bar and reached the wharf safely. The only damage was found to be to a propeller blade, due to contact with the shingle when the ship was being freed after grounding.
