AFFAIRS OF REFEREES.

At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Referees' Association last evening. Sic. J. McCowatt presiding in the absence of Mr. L. E. Bull, a motion of sympathy was passed to Mr. W. Ripley in the death of his father. The junior managament advised its policy in regard to notifying referees when fixtures were not to be fulfilled. The explanation was received. A recent demand for the revival of the Rugby League code in the King Country was reflected in the visit of the Manukau team to Taumarunui on Saturday to meet a district side. The contest, played at Manunui in. the presence of a good crowd, proved fast and entertaining, and was won in the last minute by the visitors, 30—28. The local players were keen and adaptable, and several revealOT considerable promise, particularly Woodmuss, a smart and resolute five-eighth. Wallace, an 18-year-old Maori full-back, with pace and elusiveness, and Re«se, a likely threequarter with goal-kicking ability. Mr. J. Hawkes, of Auckland, was referee. Junior sides provided the curtain-raiser. The visitors were subsequently entertained. T „ Messrs. D. Wilkie and I. Stonex represented the Auckland Rugby at a conference held with Taumarunui officials, and it is reported that there is distinct possibilities of the game being re-estab-lished on a sound footing from Otorohanga to Raetihi. Provisional officers have been appointed, and organisation is proceeding in vari6us towns o£ the King Country. Good support is being received, and it is considered that at least four teams will be available in the Taumarunui area.
