AVONDALE TRACK.

THE VISITING HORSES. GOLDEN BLONDE IMPROVED. RED MANFRED AND MANDAMUS. There are a fair number *of visiting horses at Avondale and although the course proper, on which the* poles were out 56ft, was available for fast work this morning, there was little doing, Paso .hobles being the only one to go fast. He ran live furlongs in 1.8 and was gOinir on nicely at the end. Red Manfred worked over a couple of rounds at good half-pace and put plenty of dash into his task. He looks a trifle big m condition and may need a race or two before reaching his best. valrent, Bronze Tray and Applicant were given useful tasks separately. Valrent is a bit burly looking, though in first-class order to go on with his preparation. Bronze Tray is wearing well and is also in good order, but it remains to be seen whether he can come back to bis b;st form. Applicant is a goodlooking three-year-old by Appellant from Ki Ideer, and has not done much racing. He is a particularly good mover and ampresses as one likely to make good. Golden Blonde did steady work over a couple of rounds and, judging by her .appearance, has done a lot of work at Gisborne. This filly ran some good races as a two-year-old last season under big weights and her prospects in the Flying Handicap, in which she is on the minimum, will have to be considered. Mandamus was out doing trotting exercise on the inside grass and looks well after his racing at Wanganui last week. Aiwai, in the same stable, is a smartlooking filly and she also is well forward. J. Nixon's pair, Gay Hunter and Pennyeomequiek, were only allotted easy tasks and will be sprinted to-morrow morning. Gay Hunter is an exceptionally goodlooking hack and has furnished since he raced as a two-yesar-old last season. L. J. Ellis is to ride him in his engagements at the meeting. Pennyeomequick has not grown much since she raced here last season. She looks a bit on the light side and has not been feeding well since her arrival. Debhain and his stable mate Sigurd went steadily over a round. Both moved freely, Sigurd, the two-year-old, has plenty of size and should give' a good account of himself during his present visit. Feldberg, who has been located at Avondale for over a week, is a particularly nicelooking filly by Backwood from Huraorada. She wis given barrier exercise yesterday and it is stated that she acquitted herself well. Additional riding engagements are:—L. .T. Ellis, Gay Hunter; J. Forsyth, Feldberg; S. Tremain, Dutch Girl; J. Cammick, Free Advice, Bush Lawyer; R. Home, Gay Streak, Persian Lady, Morning Sun; W. J. Broughton, Paso Roblcs, King Musk, Puss Moth, Tmpollant; C. G. Goulsbro, Con Fuoco, Pennycomequick, Girl Pat. SCRATCH INGS. The following ecratchings are announced for the Avondale meeting:—Quadroon, Candico, Sardius and Philemup, for the Champion Hack Plate; Philemup, for the Henderson Handicap; Red Ledger, for the Avondale Stakes I High Test, for the Swanson Handicap; and v Merial and Clessamor, for all engagements.
