Also started: Rhodes Scholar, Foxliejd, His Grace, I'izarro, Magnet, Raelmrn, Columcille, Haulfry.n, Esqueineling, Tliankerton. Won by three-quarters of a length, with third horse three lengths away. Boswell's victory would come in the nature of a surprise, as lie had previously failed in several engagements. He was unplaced in the Column Produce Stakes and Two Thousand Guineas at Newmarket, the Derby, the Jersey Stakes at Ascot and the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park, while his only placing was a second to Fair Trial in the Lingfield Park Plate, the pair being the only starters. Rhodes Scholar, after defeating the Derby winner, Mahniolid, in the St. James' Palace Stakes, at Ascot, and also winning the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park, would probably be the favourite. Fearless Fox was second to Flares (owned by Mr. W. Woodward) in the Newmarket Stakes in May. and was second in the Ascot Cold Vase the following month.
