SEWING INSTRUCTION.
DEPARTMENT'S GRANT.
j CAPITATION PAYMENTS. J Capitation payments for manual and technical instruction having been restored by the Government, the Educa- ' tion Department advised the Auckland ( Education. Board, in a letter received at to-day's meeting, that the board was now at liberty to employ sewing teachers in sole teacher schools in which there were no female teachers. The Department stated that j a payment of 15/ a year would be made on each unit of average attendance of pupils who received instruction in needlework for not less than one hour weekly throughout the year. For the third term of this year, a payment of one third of the capitation would be made. The board decided to take action accordingly. Increases in the maintenance grant and the grant to school committees were also announced by the chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, who said that the funds made available would aid both the board and the committees in the'improvement of school grounds. Details of the grants were discussed in committee, ft ■ ) :'Y
