ROTORUA TOURNEY. VETERANS' CUP. FIRST DAY'S PLAY. (By Telegraph.— Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Tuesday. High scoring was general in the two qualifying rounds of tlie annual contest for tlie New Zealand Veterans' Gold Cup. The best gross scores in both rounds, were returned by S. Simpson, of Napier, who last year failed to qualify for the major competition, but ultimately won the Arikikapakapa Cup, was the first to qualify for the Veterans' Cup matches yesterday with a net 187. S. Powdrell, of Wanganui, and G. 11. Scott, of Wellington, followed closely with 13!) each, another Napier player, H. J. Smith, also being ahead of Maingay with a score of 1-10. Simpson also returned the best net score of the day with a G7, while S. Powdrell, G. H. Scott and C. Gee and A. Downer, hoth of the Rotorua Club, returned net scores of O'J in one of the two rounds.
