CAR AND MOTOR CYCLE.
SEQUEL TO COLLISION. In the Police Court at Otaliuhu yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunfj, S.M., Gordon Bennett (Mr. Holmden) was charged with failing to report an accident, aiyl Mervyn James Pilkington (Mr. Haig) with negligent driving. Sergeant Caliill stated that at 7.45 p.m. on May 9 a collision took place between the two defendants at the corner of Portage Road and the* Great South Road. Bennett was driving his car in a northerly direction and, according to Pilkingtpn's story, which the police discredited, he was coming from Pan mure. The magistrate, aftqf hearing evidence, convicted Bennett and fined him £1, plus £1-5/ costs, remarking that he was not to blame for the accident, but I should have reported it. Pilkington was fined £2, plus costs £1 3/, and had his license cancelled for six months, Mr. Hunt saying he was clearly to blame, but had smashed his motor cycle and suffered serious injuries. "If we take away thejr licenses we'll soon stop them," he concluded.
