NO INTEREST.

RUGBY UNION LOAN. (By TelegTaph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, Monday. The offer of a loan of £100 by the Otago Rugby Union toward the expenses of the Auckland touring team was briefly discussed by the Otago management committee to-night, in view of Auckland's rejection of the loan because a charge of 1 per cent interest had been imposed. Strong criticism was expressed of the action of the Auckland Rugby Union committee in taking tlie matter in open meeting, it being pointed out that all correspondence from Auckland on the subject had been marked "strictly confidential." It -was decided to offer Auckland the loan of £100 free of interest. The president, Dr. Perry, said it would be a graceful action to do this and to leave it to the Auckland Unjon to say whether it ■would accept the offer or not.

ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT.

L.P. (Grey Lynn).—Although no actual record was kept of the number of times Auckland won the ball from set scrums In the match against Australia, it was obvious throughout the match that Auckland were heeling regularly. After winning possession, the Auckland forwards frequently trapped the ball In the back of tne scrum and then screwed. It appeared that whenever Auckland wanted possession, Hadley was able to obtain the ball. This fact impressed itself In the last quarter of the game when Australia attacking solidly and lighting hard for possession, could not get the ball from set scrums. Hadley was heeling the ball and the Auckland forwards were trapping it.^—Soorts Ed.
