AVONDALE STAKES
TWENTY-FOUR REMAIN. BREEDING OF CANDIDATES. The Avondale Stakes is the first two-year-old classic event of the season, and after first frofeits were declared on Friday twenty-four remain in.
The Bird Call filly is by Mimetic and is owned by Mr. D. J. Barry, of Gisborne, ■who some years ago produced the winner of this event in Automne. Bird Call is by Autumn, sire of Automne, from Weka, by Absurd, while Mimetic, who is by Comedy King, won the Great Northern Foal Stakes for Mr. A. B. Williams in 1924. Aiwai belongs to F. Davis and is by Chief Ruler from Yeomanry, an imported mare, by Buck Hussar. Aiwai is a sister to Prevail. Feldberg is an Australian-bred filly by Backwood from Humorada. Accomplice is a filly by Night Raid from Endorse, by Paper Money from Epitaph, who produced Tea Trader. Epitaph is by Absurd from Eulogy, the dam of Pennon, Humbug, Fulsome, Homage, Commendation, Eulalie and others. White Foam is a grey filly by Vaals from Rehutai (also a grey), by Lucullus from Aquatus, by Gold Reef —Kotuku. Carrington Hall is a colt by Hunting Song from Merry Roe, and is a half-brother to Merry, Damon, Merry Mint and Merry Melody, and a full-brother to Merry Peel and Merry Hunter. Airam is a filly by Brazen from Volume and was purchased in Australia by Mr. W. H. Maria. Greenwich, a filly by Chief Ruler from Summer Time, comes from the same family at Sir Nigel and Red Flame, for the latter two are half relatives to Summer Time.
Sigura is a colt by Siegfried from All Bright, ail English-bred mare, by Grand Parade, the sire of Grand Knight, who raced well in New Zealand. Mr. T. li. Lowry has two unnamed youngsters, both by Nigger Minstrel. One is a colt from Symballo, and therefore a half-brother to Symcony, and the other is from Bravado, by Psychology from War Scare, by-Mar-tian from Gossip (the dam of Bobrikoff). British Nation is a lialf-brotlier to Sir Musk and Musquil, while Bowyang is ; by Lord Warden from Molten,, by Solferino from Formless, by Multiform from Dreamer. Formless was a full-sister to Bon Reve, and their dam comes from the Nightmare family, which produced Class, the dam of Bon Ton, Eligible and others. Harlech is by Cambria Park from Towy 11, and is a three-quarter brother to Kiltowyn, and Royal Bachelor is a colt by Musketoon from Reveal, by Leighton. Manatere is by Hauwiri (Whirlwind —Shebang) from Wairama, while Love Parade is by Nightmarch from Pride, by Sutala from Egotism, by Demosthenes. Pride won the New Zealand Oaks at Riccarton in 1928. Elanage is by Posterity from Impetuous, by Limond from Pennon, who produced Motley, Lysander, Ceremony and others. Tririri claims Hoariri as her sire. Raceful has three representatives. The one from Lady Seline has been • named Raceline, that from Lady Lois Penzance, and that from Abbes Red Lodger. Lady Lois won the Avondale Stakes in 1921.
