NEW CHAMPION
MISS I. McCREADY'S WIN.
AKARANA LADIES' TITLE
The continued run of successes which Miss I. MeCready lias had since she commenced golf only a few seasons ago was crowned yesterday when nhe won the championship of the Akarana Ladies' Club. Slie dethroned Mrs. F. l'reston, who has held the title on lour occasions, in a final which the full 38 holes. There was little between the players, and perhaps it was Mrs. I rest oil's indifferent putting which lost her the title. Miss McCready's long game .was as usual a most helpful factor. Miss MeCready won the opening two holes, nut when the eighth was played her opponent had taken the lead. Mrs. l'reston lost the _ ninth, but won the lirst two holes coming home, to bo 2 up. Wilis at the thirteenth and fourteenth saw Miss MeCready square the match again. Of "the remaining holes all were halved except the seventeenth, which Miss MeCready won, and that gave her victorv, 1 tip.
The winner Ims gradually been reducing nor handicap. She has several times showed such excellent form in events in which her
play co-uld not be utilised in fixing lier handicap that she was put on halt handicap. At present she is playing on half l(i and there seems little doubt that before the end of the season she will be on single figures. She is one of the most promising women players in the province.
The results of the championship were as follow :—-
