AMUSEMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The modern musical comedy, "The New Moon," will be staged by the Amateur Operatic Society at His Majesty's Theatre on September 11 and following ten nights. The play lias proved so popular since its original presentation in foreign cities that it is being frequently staged afresh by theatrical organisations throughout the British Empire. Produced originally in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, this light opera has proved a worthy successor to "The Desert Song," which was written by the same author and composer. The Wellington .Operatic Society has just completed a highly successful season, and a number of Auckland enthusiasts viewed the production last week. It is . anticipated that, with the strong cast tnat has been assembled, and the fine chorus, the musical interpretation and the dramatic situations will receive an enthusiastic reception. A new note tor Aucklandeis will be the special ballets to be featured in the show. Naturally, owing to the original characteristics to be incorporated in these, nothing can be said at the pre- ' sent time, but patrons are promised a reaj 1 surprise. The society claims that the ballet will set a new and spectacular standard for this city. Special arrangements for the booking of subscribers are an--1 nounced.
