CANISTER MAKING.
FORTY-HOUR WEEK ACCEPTED Hours of work for the canister making industry and for glue workers in Canterbury are fixed in judgments issued by the Arbitration Court. The parties in the canister making dispute agreed upon a 40-hour fife-day week, and an order will be made, as from to-morrow, amending the awards and agreements accordingly, except for canister makers employed by firms carrying on the industries of fruit preserving. fish preserving and jam making, or other industries that have been granted extensions of hours above 40 a week. Workers not covered by the new order will be required to work the hours fixed for the respective houses that employ them.
GI/UE WORKERS' HOURS.
Holding that a case for relief had been established the Court has granted an application for an extension to 44 a week of the hours for glue workers in Canterbury. Saturday work, the Ciurt considered, was essential. An order was made fixing, as from to-morrow, the hours of workers, other than shift workers and females, at 44 a week, with a daily maximum of 8J hours. L'he hours for shift workers and females will be 40 a week.
