LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

[AUCKLAND 'CONTROL BOARD. NEWTON APPEAL TO COUNCIL. TEST PLAYERS CONGRATULATED. At the meeting of the Auckland, Rugby League Control Board last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, it was decided to thank the schools' committee' and the junior management upon the curtainraisers arranged in connection with the British matches. The board also expressed appreciation of the work of Mr. L. Rout, secretary of the schools' committee, and other voluntary helpers, for special service. It was pointed out that the championship fixture between Ponsonby and Newton seniors on Saturday would be played at Stafford Park, Northcote, in aid of the Returned Soldiers' Association funds. The Auckland players who were selected for the New Zealand team were congratulated and it was decided to write them individually on the subject. It was also decided to congratulate the council upon the manner in which the New Zealand teams were prepared and equipped for the Test matches. | The chairman said he felt sure that the lessons of the big matches would be taken to heart by the Auckland clubs in immediate fixtures ahead, and that some experimenting would be made in the direction of team-building to develop talent lor special positions. The speaker said that the matches against England had shown that New Zealand had the players. I At the request of the Newton Rangers'l Club it was decided to send forward to the New Zealand Council an application by Newton Rangers for a repeal of the sentence on A. Nathan or a re-opening of the case concerning this player, who was recently suspended until the end of next season as the result of an incident under the grandstand after a club match. 1 A copy of the evidence also was 3ent forward. The Auckland Young Women s Christian Association was granted the use of Carlaw Park for a demonstration of the game of Nigoro during September. I The Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre wrote asking for support in connection with its 100 mile championship race from Papakura to Ngaruawahia and back, and j it was decided to offer a trophy to the value of two guineas. _ j The schools' committee advised that Messrs.
