The - Rt. Rev. W. G. Hilliard, Bishop 3f Nelson, arrived from Wellington by :he express yesterday morning. Mr. D. Wilson, national secretary of :he New Zealand Labour party, left for Wellington by the Limited express last light. Mr. J. Stoneliouse lias been elected chairman of the board of governors of the ,Hutt Valley High School, in succession to Mr. C. L. Dowland. Dr. R. A. Robinson, lecturer in physical chemistry at the Auckland University College, left by the Akaroa on Saturday evening for a short visit to England. Mr. J. Larner, who had been ittendinjf the annual meeting of the National War Funds Council at Wellington, returned by the express yesterday morning. The Rev. R. Dudley, of Wanganui, is visiting Auckland to' take part in the 'Youth for Christ" campaign. He preached at the Epsom, Mount Eden and Dominion Road Methodist Churches yesterday. Dr. Malcolm Sargent, the English musician who conducted "Elijah" for the Royal Wellington Choral Union on Saturday night, intends to spend a short holiday "in New Zealand before leaving for Sydney at tlie end of this month. Mr. A. J. Murdoch, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board, and Mr. 1. C. Brash, secretary of the board, are in the South Island. * They attended a conference of delegates from factories in the southern ward at Invercargill last week. Sir. R. Ferner, the newlv-appointed S.M., will be stationed in Wellington for some months. He occupied the Magisterial Bench for the first time on Saturday, when he was associated with Mr. W. F. Stilwell. S.M., formerly a resident of Auckland. Mr. John Parsons, of Barcelona, who has visited relatives in New Zealand every two years for a considerable time past, has arrived in England with his familv aboard a British warship, according to private advice received by cable. Mr. Parsons was in. the Dominion last summer. Mr. A. G. Hutchinson, shearing machinery expert for Levin and Company, has retired after 40 years' . service with the company. Sir. Hutchinson has been associated with the development of mechanical shearing ever since its introduction into the Dominion many years ago. Mr. D. E. S. Mason, engineer to the Bluff Harbour Board, who holds the rank of lieutenant in the New Zealand Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, has been promoted to the rank of engineer-lieutenant-commander. This is the first engineer appointment made in the New Zealand division of the Reserve. Mr. F. J. T. Grigg, Government Analyst in Christcliurch, lias been given leave of absence to visit England to make contact with the authorities carrying out similar duties there. Mr. Grigg will investigate the latest analytical methods in toxicology, water and sewage testing, examination of foodstuffs and gas supplies. Mr. F. F. M. Ferguson, manager in New Zealand for the Dunlop Rubber Company (N.Z.), Limited, who is leavj ing for England by the Niagara next month, will afterwards return to India, where he had several years of service with the company's organisation prior to coming to New Zealand. Mr. Ferguson's place in New Zealand will be taken by Mr. Philip Proctor, who will be shortly arriving from England.
