HON. W. NASH IN AUCKLAND.
VARIED ENGAGEMENTS,
After a busy week-end in Auckland the first since his appointment to Cabinet—the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, left for Wellington by the express l.ast evening. A deputation of superannuated railway servants, who had been retired on pensions on an actuarial basis, waited on the Minister asking for assistance in view of the increase in other types of pensions and allowances. Mr. Nash explained that, as had been pointed out in the Budget, steps would be taken to meet injustices and hardships. On Saturday afternoon the Minister was present at the League match between New Zealand and England. In the evening he defended the Budget policy at a meeting arranged in the Auckland Chamber of Commerce by Auckland business and professional men interested in the utilisation of public ■credit. A prominent Anglican, Mr. Nash, read *he lesson to a large congregation at All Saints' Church, Ponsonby, yesterday. In the afternoon he met Mr. R. 0. Gross, who is preparing ornamental work for the memorial to the late Mr. H. E. Holland, former leader of the Labour party in the New Zealand Parliament. i
