FATALITIES TOO COMMON.

WELLINGTON, this day.

The readiness of the New Zealand Acclimatisation Society and gun sportsmen to help the State in any practical manner towards the prevention of fatal accidents in stalking game birds on lakes and rivers was commented on by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to-day. He mentioned the numerous fatalities over the years, and made special reference to the loss of two lives last month as the result of a duck shooting expedition on a Wairarana lake. he Minister said he had urged acclimatisation societies and sportsmen to co-operate in devising some means which would give hints and warnings to sportsmen. Many enthusiastic young men went on lagoons and lakes in easily capsizable boats without a thought of danger. Valuable suggestions had been made to him, and he was sanguine of the spirited co-operation of the acclimatisation societies in bringing them before sportsmen.

"I am hopeful," said the Minister, "that the, adoption of something concrete will bring results which will be of material benefit to sportsmen and the public." ;•
