EXPLOSION OF DETONATOR. ACCIDENT AT WAIHI. (By Telegraph— Own Correspondent.; WAIHI, this day. As a result of an unusual accident at the Waihi mine yesterday, a miner, Mr. Frederick Cartman. a married man, aged 03, had portion of his left hand blown off by an explosion. Mr. Cartman was charging a hole i" the roof of a stope preliminary to firing- ; it. and when the accident happened was inserting with a tamping stick <i f" s< " with detonator attached. When in the act of reaching for some tiiniping cn\ the fuse fell out of the hole across the flame of his carbide lamp, whicli was, on the floor of the stope.
